Walk the Overland Track in Tasmania

So it begins: to walk the Overland Track in Tasmania. It’s iconic, that’s for sure. It’s been a long time coming to this exact spot. Bookings opened 1st July and the website crashed instantly, such was the demand for independent walkers. Now on a clear summer’s day, our little group of three have ticked all the boxes that we’re carrying a tent, rain jacket, thermals, beanie, gloves, warm sleeping bag and the list goes on for the Parks and Wildlife Service to be certain that we’re well prepared for winter in summer. It’s serious. Oh yes, cold, wet, windy weather anytime is notoriously expected. Yet ours is five days of perfect conditions. We walk onto the boardwalk with a lightness of heart that isn’t felt on our backs. That happy camaraderie of catching up with friends, feeling physically fit and beginning a new adventure.
