Walking towards Barn Bluff

Walking towards Barn Bluff on Tasmania’s Overland Track after passing Cradle Mountain it’s hard to imagine that we could be there today. It looks so distant, so prominent. Along a glacial ridge the view is enormous. We’re accustomed to cityscape views. Barn Bluff must be eight or ten kilometres from here yet crystal clear. We settle into our own easy pace on the single track. For an hour gazing in a reverie, I’m astounded. The view is endless, changing yet always clear and wide, as though we’re on top of the world. How rarely I see such distances. It’s big picture stuff. It’s worth the walk.
