Walking eastwards from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay along Wainwright’s Coast to Coast, United Kingdom, we’re a group of ten women self-guided. Planning and preparations complete. From the Irish Sea to the North Sea, we will cross through the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks. It’s just a map when we begin, foreign names, peaks and troughs of elevation showing steep slopes, all the unknown beyond paragraphs of other people’s opinions and experiences. Eighteen days, though the first day is arrival and the last day is departure. Sixteen days of walking from village to village. No, there’s a rest day too. So much to consider.
