Walked enough today

“Walked enough today,” my thoughts call. I want to sit. I want to stop, stop walking. I want to stay. Weakening late afternoon sunshine beckons. Golden button grass gleams in stillness. Oh to sit in a comfortable chair and absorb the sun’s warmth before the afternoon cools. Summer is easing into an autumn afternoon. I want to be like a solar panel, facing in the best angle, soaking energy from the blue sky, gazing at this spectacular view, letting the mountains imprint upon my eyes. Such mellow joy. The joy of having walked enough today. The joy of absorbing beauty. Surely Narcissus Hut is just around a corner. I walk on, not trudging, striding towards the goal yet mindful that I may have missed any opportunity to soak in the sun today.
